Lynne shares what it is like to help people through Streetwork
Lynne shares what it is like to help young people through Streetwork "I try to make this space inviting, safe and nurturing," says Lynne Perry as she arranges chairs in the large, sunlit room that serves as Streetwork’s Wellness Center.
"That way, when young people come in, they know that it’s okay to be exactly who they are and to express themselves exactly the way they want to express themselves."
As Streetwork’s Sexual Health and Wellness Coordinator, Lynne provides a variety of services, including acupuncture, acupressure, mediation groups, and even haircuts, called streetcuts by her young clients.
Lynne empowers her clients by encouraging them to embrace who they are. "In a world that’s made up of systems, what we’re trying to do is equip these clients with skills that they didn’t receive as children or as little kids so that they can be empowered to make the decisions that they need to make in order to change their circumstances."
"It’s all about truly, truly reaching another individual and meeting them where they are without judgment, without anything except wanting to see them whole."
If you or a young person you know is on the streets and needs help, please call Streetwork at 1.800.708.6600 or stop by one of our drop-in centers.
